Mapping/Graphics Inspiration

Another referral from Landscape+Urbanism is Urban Cartography. A site that Jason King describes "The posts simply show collected imagery of a variety of informatics and other interesting mashups of data from around the globe. Not mapping in the traditional sense, these densely woven graphics provide some great inspiration for representation in ways that would make Edward Tufte proud (or sometimes cringe)."

I like Mega Shark, because although the content is nonsense, complex information (movement, time, spatial relationships) is presented beautifully.

Playable 2010

Playground design competition due October 2010. Right now they are in the first phase, which is accepting preliminary entries from children. Adult entrants need to create designs that are responsive to the children's preliminary entries. "Playable 2010 invites designers of all types from around the world to design playground equipment and spaces that will give a sense of place, wonder and fun so strong that they will entice children outdoors to play."
